Last weekend, I finally carved out some time to watch Marcel the Shell with Shoes On. I’ve waited for this movie to come out since 2010 when Marcel the Shell first starting taking popularity on Youtube via short clips created by Dean Fleischer Camp and Jenny Slate.
It was such an endearing film—documenting the story of Marcel, a one-inch tall shell with one eye and shoes. The film details their colorful existence with their grandmother, Nana Connie, and through documentary-style, captures a story of how they were separated from their community of shells. It makes stops at friendship, family, community, joy, loss, hope, fear, and adversity.
I enjoy cinematography a lot, specifically for their striking compositions and captivating color grading. Here are a couple films on my radar to watch (or rewatch) this summer.
